"The IFSA is very excited to partner with Kirkwood Mountain Resort to host the 2017 IFSA Junior North American Championships. Conditions are looking to be exceptional this season and what a year to introduce our top junior riders to the plentiful , dry Tahoe snow and unique terrain that has long made Kirkwood the home of big mountain lifestyle. It has been a few years since our rider have had the opportunity to experience this special place and we are excited to have Kirkwood back in the big mountain family!"

Freeride World Qualifier

The International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association (IFSA) is and athlete advocacy organization serving as the
sanctioning, judging, and ranking organization for junior and adult big mountain freeride events in North and South
America. Operating in partnership with the Freeride World Tour (FWT) and valued event hosts, the IFSA has built a network
of events that enable junior and adult athletes to compete and qualify on regional, national, and world stages. The
phenomenal growth of freeride presents opportunities for athletes to participate in one of the most substantial trends in
snow sports, consider:
• 40+ North American resort partners and growing - 900% growth over 4 years
• 71+ IFSA sanctioned competitions and growing - 1,500% growth over 4 years
• 2900+ engaged athletes in North America and growing - 1,000% growth over 4 years

IFSA North American Junior Freeride Series (U12, 12-14, 15-18)
Featuring the best junior big-mountain skiers and snowboarders in North America, the IFSA North American Junior Freeride
Series includes more that 50 competitive opportunities. These events provide developing young athletes with the chance
to hone their skills, develop as individuals, and earn valuable points within the IFSA North American ranking. Series events
are classified as regional, national, or championships. Event participants include both independent athletes and team
athletes traveling with a team and coach. In all cases, these athletes are coached on safety protocols and smart decisionmaking
prior to and during all competitive events. This design delivers challenging, fun, but also safe competitive
opportunities for the junior community.
The Junior Freeride Series now culminates in the NorAm Junior Freeride Championships. The top finishers from the North
American Junior Freeride Series qualify for this event by accumulating points for events they attend thought the season.
The IFSA currently has over 1,600 engaged junior athletes In North America. Hundreds of new athletes have entered the
IFSA Junior competitive landscape over the last few seasons and this growth reflects the increasing momentum of freeride
competition in North America as well as the potential for growth with existing and future event partners.

North American Championships

Athletes will be selected for the North American Junior Freeride Championships from both Overall IFSA Junior Freeride
Series Rankings. There will be no team quotas for the North American Championship event. Athletes may also qualify for
Championships based on their Overall Ranking within their region. Regional slot allocations will be based upon the number
of participating IFSA member athletes in a Region and is determined by total membership in early March of 2017. The North
American Championship event will be 4-5 days long and will be considered the last event of the 2017 season. Consistent
with discussions at the 2015 Coaches Summit, this event will be designed to accommodate the top 160 to 180 ranked
