FIRE DEPT BBQ, WILDFLOWER FESTIVAL, AND THIN AIR CHILI COOKOFF
Each year, we host three main events at Kirkwood in the summer... We kick off the season during the 4th of July Weekend with our Annual Fire Department BBQ, then we fast forward to the Wildflower Festival, and finally close the season on Labor Day weekend with the Annual Thin Air Chili Cookoff. Each event provides fun for the entire family with wine and beer tasting for the adults, pony rides and face painting for the kids, and live music that everyone will surely enjoy. MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK
A diamond in the rough, the Kirkwood Mountain Bike park is growing and changing before our very eyes. With two new trails for 2010 - Sentinels and Robey Wolfe - we're quickly becoming a mountain bike destination offering something for everyone. Trails range from the meandering summer road to super fun downhill, each with something new around every turn. Chairs 1 and 2 are open for lift access to Kirkwood's Mountain Bike Park on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm and Sundays from 10am to 3pm.
FAT TIRE FIESTA 2010
Mountain bike enthusiasts should check out our 10-day Fat Tire Fiesta this August 20 - 29... Every day has something new in store, including night rides, XC races, Super-D, clinics, hill climbs, and more. Click on the Fat Tire Fiesta link at the left to find out more!
ROPES COURSE, CLIMBING WALL, AND ZIP LINE
Unleash your inner child on our ropes course, climbing wall, and zip line at Kirkwood next summer! Open weekends all summer, kids and adults alike will have a blast testing their skills on the higher elements of the ropes course and zip line. Get ready for the rocks on our climbing wall - it's a great place to warm up before heading to the big walls near by!
DISC GOLF
Praised by locals and visitors alike as one of the West Coast's most challenging disc golf courses, Disc Wood is definitely a mainstay at Kirkwood during the summer. Visit the General Store at Red Cliffs Day Lodge to pick up your disc golf map and scorecard. Bring your own disc or pick one up from the G-Store along with your map. Play is free!
KIRKWOOD CORRALS
Explore the scenic ridgelines of the High Sierra via horseback this summer! Horse trails open beyond the Cross Country Center in mid-July, providing a fantastic experience the entire family can enjoy. Rates and hours of operation will be posted by July 20 for those looking to register. ADDITIONAL HORSEBACK TOUR OPTIONS
Begin your tour of the High Sierra from the base area of Kirkwood near the Mountain Village, then find your way through the areas of Thunder Saddle and the Mokelumne Wilderness before reaching a rest stop at the top of Red Cliffs near Shep's Lake. This three hour ride costs $125 and is available Monday through Friday with a variety of times to choose from or on Saturday evenings for a sunset ride.
