DECEMBER 2010
12.05.10        10  Kilometer Race
Kicking off the season at Kirkwood is the Kirkwood Cross Country 10K. This event is a 10 kilometer race, open to all levels of ski ability. The course will be times around the Kirkwood Meadow. You don’t need to be a “racer-type” to enter the event and have a good time. The course is basically flat and fast which makes it all the more enjoyable. Cost: $15 pre-registration or $20 race day.

12.18.10        Full Moon Snowshoe Trek
Each month there is a guided snowshoe walk trek under the light of the full moon. There is nothing more special and beautiful than the reflected light of the moon on the snow. Come hoot and howl at the moon. Arrive at 6:00pm. Reservations are required. Cost $25 (plus $5 snowshoe rental)

12.19.10        Sierra Crest Snowshoe
This monthly guided snowshoe hike will be offered at Kirkwood Cross Country.  The day will consist of an exhilarating hike toward the crest of the Sierra Nevada above Kirkwood. The relaxing pace of the hike provides time to enjoy the surroundings. Arrive at 10:00AM, returning by 3:00PM. Reservations are required. Cost $25 (snowshoe rentals for the day are $5)

JANUARY 2011
01.02.11        Ski Skate Clinic
Skating techniques have been revolutionized in the past few years. Join a clinic to learn all about the transformation of the body position and the use of energy. Debbi Waldear  and Staff will conduct the clinics, eight time World Master Champion and winner of Great American Ski Chase.  Her recent experience working with the U.S. Ski Team Coaches gives her the cutting edge.  The clinics are about improving on skills and learning the natural more centered way of skating.  The morning clinic starts at 10:00AM, pre-registration is advised. Cost $30. The trail pass is $10. Late registration / event day is $35. Equipment rental - $10.   

01.08.11        Winter Trails Day
Kirkwood joins REI in hosting a free snowshoe demo day. Leading snowshoe companies will be on hand with equipment to try out on the trail at Kirkwood. All one has to do is just show up and we'll guide you to becoming an ardent snowshoer. There will also be various seminars offered throughout the day. Seminars will include avalanche safety and beacon use, GPS introductions, snowshoe tours, the day will be filled with things to do and learn. Kirkwood Cross Country will be offering FREE mini beginning ski lessons, this free package will include lesson and equipment rental, there will be a $16 trail pass charge for that wish to ski after the lesson. The lessons will be on the hour every hour starting at 10am through 2pm,reservations are required. Call 209-258-7248 for more information. Trail passes will also be discounted to $16.

Enjoy the colors of the sunset while walking along the trails. As we watch the sunset to the west, we will enjoy the alpenglow on the red cliffs to the east. Reservations required. Start time 4:30PM. Cost $15 (plus $5 for snowshoe rental).
