TRAIL DESCRIPTIONS:
Kirkwood offers over 80km of groomed trails with spectacular views of the Sierra Crest and the surrounding wilderness.  The terrain and variety of options is unlimited with more than 4,200 acres ranging from beginner-friendly meadows to exhilarating climbs and downhills.  All trails have snowshoe and skating lanes with two trails designated dog-friendly.

KIRKWOOD MEADOW:
The expansive Kirkwood meadow provides great options for all ability levels with two 5 kilometer loops, the outer loop being dog friendly and the inner loop restricted to skiing and snowshoeing.  These options are perfect for children and adults looking for an easy cruise.  The trails can be accessed via the north end near the cross country center or from the south end near the Mountain Village.

SIERRA VISTA:
An old favorite, this trail is part of the Schneider trail system which climbs towards the Sierra Crest affording views of the Desolation Wilderness, Round Top Mountain and even the Coast Range.  These trails head toward the famed Schneider Cow Camp near the very ridge crossed by Snowshoe Thompson over 150 years ago.

CAPLES CREEK:
The Caples Creek trail system begins at the cross-country lodge with the eight trails providing a lot of diversity.  Caples Creek is dotted with beaver ponds, birds of prey, ducks, heron and all the small fur bearing critters that stay active in winter.  One of the most popular trails in this system is the High Trail, ascending up and along a narrow ridge with 360 degree views of granite.
