The Cross country is now open daily from 9am - 5pm with 55 kilometers of machine groom trail with skating and snowshoe lanes. Upper trails at Schneider Camp are open to Coyote Pass, the top of the trail system. There is also 10 kilometers of easy terrain open in Kirkwood Meadow. Need new gear? Saturday Feb 25th - Join us for the Sunset Snowshoe, enjoy the colors of sunset and the alpenglow on this guided evening trek!
If you want to start your cross country adventure from the Village area, stop by Expedition Kirkwood and we'll rent you some snowshoes so you can hike across the meadow to the XC Center where they'll switch out your snowshoes for skis at no extra charge! Return at either location.
NEW...GROOMING
This season a NEW grooming machine has been added to the Kirkwood fleet. This means multiple trail systems can be groomed at one time and the Schneider Trail system can be groomed earlier in the season and more consistently.
About the Cross Country Center
80km of groomed trails at 7,800 feet offer the most spectacular scenery and exciting terrain in the west. Located 1/4 mile east of Kirkwood on Hwy 88 (next to the Kirkwood Inn) and nestled in a beautiful Alpine Valley, our diverse terrain offers excellent skiing for all abilities. Bring your four legged friend along too - dogs are allowed on two trails, the High Trail located behind the Kirkwood Inn and the Outer Loop on the meadow.
Many trails feature interpretive signs providing for a more enlightening and meaningful visit. The “Kiddy Kilometer” is sure to keep the youngest skiers engaged - this one kilometer loop lined with life size animal cut outs and flip up signs.
Sip on hot chocolate beside the wood burning stove in the day lodge or warm up in one of our three trailside warming huts, then finish the perfect day with a scrumptious meal at the historic Kirkwood Inn.
