The Cross country is now open daily from 9am - 5pm with 55 kilometers of machine groom trail with skating and snowshoe lanes. Upper trails at Schneider Camp are open to Coyote Pass, the top of the trail system. There is also 10 kilometers of easy terrain open in Kirkwood Meadow. Need new gear? Saturday Feb 25th - Join us for the Sunset Snowshoe, enjoy the colors of sunset and the alpenglow on this guided evening trek!
If you want to start your cross country adventure from the Village area, stop by Expedition Kirkwood and we'll rent you some snowshoes so you can hike across the meadow to the XC Center where they'll switch out your snowshoes for skis at no extra charge! Return at either location.
Rentals
Cross country and snowshoe rentals are availalbe at two locations:
Cross Country & Snowshoe Center - Located on Hwy 88 next door to the Kirkwood Inn for convenient access to our 80km of scenic alpine trails. The Center offers a full range of Cross Country and Snowshoe rentals, plus retail, trail passes and lessons. 209.258.7248.
High Alpine Adventure Center - located at Red Cliffs across from the General Store for easy access to the mellow Meadow Loop trails. The HAAC oofers a limited seelction of Cross Country and Snowshoe rentals plus trail passes. 209.258.7210.
Ski Rentals
The center features Rossignol ski, boots and poles - the standard waxless packages are the new innovative Evo ski. Skis are available in both traditional and ski skate models. Top of the line skate skis and boots plus a full size range of Rossignol light weight backcountry skis and boots are also available.
The Delta skate ski package will be on sale at Kirkwood this season. This free and easy skiing skate ski is for sport and citizen racers. It’s stable and quick with a smooth platform for push-off. It encourages good technique and long glide.
Snowshoe Rentals
Snowshoeing is a great alternative to cross country skiing. Snowshoeing allows you to enjoy our beautiful trails without the learning curve of skiing. Several models of high-tech snowshoes are available for rent and sale at the Cross Country Center.
