Kirkwood’s colorful history began back in 1972 with one road, one lodge and four chairlifts accessing the terrain once explored by historical figures such as Zachary Kirkwood, Monte Wolfe and Snowshoe Thompson. Kirkwood Mountain Resort today boasts over 2,300 skiable acres, more than 65 trails, 12 chairlifts, a variety of on-site lodging and second-home opportunities, and is visited by more than 400,000 riders each season. To commemorate this milestone, Kirkwood Mountain Resort is hosting its 35th Anniversary Celebration Weekend this Saturday, January 5th and Sunday, January 6th with plenty of festivities and giveaways. The weekend will include a full lineup of events including Subaru’s Master the Mountain, the Marmot 6 Summit Peak Pursuit, a special editor’s cut of the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival and a collage of vintage Kirkwood footage from the last 35 seasons.
