Two Day Program

Have a good start, but want to learn how to piece it all together?  It’s definitely within reach—here is the next step.   We combine three hours of Classroom before heading out on the hill for our Avalanche Terrain Awareness Course.  This all mountain tour is where we will discover just how closely Kirkwood’s terrain mirrors true backcountry.  After we come back, we’ll take a quick break before our first real backcountry tour with touring gear.   This tour will wind through the meadow; gaining slight elevation to the Bivouac site.  The Bivouac site (snow camping) is possibly the most fun of all.  Don’t worry, we’ll show you how easy it is to stay warm, dry and well fed.  Day one isn’t over just yet; we like to go on an easy nighttime tour before hitting the sleeping bags.  Day two is just as packed with information and discovery.

Expedition guides will provide basic touring ideas and concepts before allowing our guests to get in front and lead the group.  Here guides will provide thoughtful suggestions allowing the student to begin understanding and utilizing the decision making framework that is constant throughout any tour, regardless of difficulty.

This two day introduction to backcountry is designed for intermediate through advanced skiing/riding skills.  If you can ski/ride chair 6 comfortably—this is for you.
