Kirkwood and Burton have teamed up to bring you one of Tahoe’s most progressive Learn To Ride Centers. Always a leader in the industry, Burton partnered with the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) to create the fundamentals of the Learn To Ride Program. Accelerating learning and minimizing falls are the rudiments of the program. Innovative equipment, combined with proven teaching methodology make learning to snowboard fun and easy. All of our snowboard lesson packages include Burton equipment.
Burton designers tested many pieces of prototype equipment with the beginner in mind, then put these prototypes into actual lessons and worked with AASI to produce the end result. Boards, boots and binding are made specifically for learning.
Even with the best equipment available, the right instruction and appropriate terrain play a crucial role in skill development. Kirkwood’s teaching terrain is considered the best in Sierra, and the new TC Express intermediate chair ensures riders get plenty of on-snow time to hone their skills. Our low student to instructor ratio promotes success. Our instructors understand that people learn differently and believe being attentive to individual needs is crucial for effectively communicating new skills. Our goal is to get new riders to link turns on their first day, get stoked on snowboarding and come back for more. New this Season! Burton Learn to Ride (LTR) Powder Program Kirkwood has partnered with Burton to offer one of only two resorts to offer the Learn to Ride (LTR) Powder Program. Clinics will focus on the skill set needed to ride in powder and how they are different from every day riding techniques. Guests will learn how understand the storm cycles and how that effects different types of terrain and best places to find more powder. Each group will spend some time getting a basic understanding of backcountry gear and usage, to include split boards, snowshoes, beacons, shovel, probe and pack. Groups will be split based on rider abilities and snow conditions and will focus on rider improvement. Guides will lead groups to their favorite stashes and provide knowledge on reading the terrain and having an appropriate plan and understanding the dynamics of snow and different types of terrain.
