Lake Tahoe´s First Carpool Online Forum Comes Together At Kirkwood

Internet Social Network Helps Guests Connect, Save Money, Reduce Traffic and Gas Consumption

(Kirkwood, Calif.) – This season, Kirkwood http://www.kirkwood.com is making carpooling easier with one of the most innovative ideas in the ski industry, the Kirkwood Carpool Blog. It will launch this season and provide incentives for guests to save gas money while reducing traffic and pollution.

The online social network will connect Kirkwood visitors for the purpose of carpooling while inviting like-minded skiers and riders to post their memories and thoughts. The resort and its partners O’Neill, Marmot, CLIF Bar and Subaru will be distributing incentives to guests who arrive via carpool.

“Carpooling is a major environmental initiative for us,” said Allon Cohne, resort marketing director. “This online community will be a forum to encourage carpooling and help people share the road,” he continued.

Starting in November, skiers and riders can start networking and planning their carpools by signing up on Kirkwood’s Web site www.kirkwood.com

A trip to Kirkwood takes the traveler through awe-inspiring scenery. The resort’s legendary landscape is featured on the cover of SKI Magazine’s October 2007 issue. The magazine also ranked the resort No. 8 for “snow” in North America.

In addition to the carpooling program, Kirkwood is involved in other environmental projects. Every lodging rental unit fee includes a $1 donation to the National Forest Foundation, a congressionally chartered non-profit partner of the U.S. Forest Service, who will fund projects within the Eldorado National Forest.

The resort has also entered into an agreement this year with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to sell “green tags” to guests. “Green tags” are used to help develop new wind power generation facilities in the U.S. and will be available for purchase at all ticket outlets. Kirkwood will match the total “green tag” sales for the 2007-08 ski season to further the resort’s environmental initiatives. For more information, visit www.kirkwood.com.
