Snowmobile Tours
*Where will we go?
The trailhead is in beautiful Hope Valley, at 7,200 feet elevation,
just south of Lake Tahoe in Alpine County, California. After a brief
orientation, a safety talk, and driving instruction, guests drive
themselves, following their guide. The trail climbs rapidly, quickly
heading deep into the backcountry. Looking west across Faith Valley,
visitors see the dramatic Sierra Crest at nearly 10,000 feet. Crossing
Charity Valley below Markleeville Peak the trail passes historic
cabins built by early settlers. Following the rim of Charity Canyon
and another climb to 8,300 feet it levels out for a view of the surrounding
scenic mountain peaks.
The guides at Lake Tahoe Adventures are experts at teaching beginning
snowmobilers. Once out on the trail they continually assess the ability
of the group and tailor the tour to deliver the best experience for
everyone. With many miles of groomed trails in the Humboldt-Toiyabe
National Forest, every tour offers tremendous scenic opportunities.
Some of the possibilities are Tamarack Lake, Raymond Peak, Jeff Davis
Peak, and Lower Blue Lake
Summit Tour.
The most popular tour is the scenic two hour Summit Tour. It is a great
ride for any ability level. Our nice wide groomed trails and small
groups make this the perfect family adventure. It lasts approximately
two hours including orientation and rest/photo stops. Guests can ride
double if they choose (see pricing on group order form). Children five
and under can ride with a parent for free on a double machine.
Ultimate Tour Those seeking a more challenging experience will be
interested in an Ultimate Tour. The Ultimate (2 hour tour) leaves the
groomed trails, taking riders even deeper into the most rugged terrain
the area has to offer. The Ultimate Expedition (4 hour tour) is an
excellent choice for any adventurous, athletic enthusiast and ideal
for experienced riders who want to tune their skills. Guides leading
Ultimate Tours are some of the best snowmobile pilots in the west and
can take anyone out to the limits of their ability.
*How do we
get to Hope Valley?
You can ride the shuttle from Kirkwood or South Lake Tahoe casinos
(reservations required) or drive yourself to Hope Valley (SNO-PARK
pass required). From Kirkwood, take a right onto Hwy 88 and head down
to Blue Lakes Road (about.10 miles) and take a right into the SNO-PARK.
You will need a SNO-PARK permit to park here which can be purchased
onsite or at the Kirkwood Station on Hwy 88. If you opt for the shuttle
bus, a minimum of four people is required, as well as reservations.
*What do we wear?
Lake Tahoe Adventures will furnish helmets, gloves, boots, and goggles.
Your ski helmet is not allowed as helmets must be "DOT" approved.
If you do not have a warm jacket and pants you can rent a snowmobile
suit for $10.00. Don't forget sun screen.
*What should I bring?
Each driver will need a license or learner's permit and major credit
card for the damage deposit on their machine. You may also want to
bring a camera as you will be touring some beautiful country. A bottle
of water is a good idea too; but don't bring more than will fit in
a small backpack. Sorry, no snowboards.
*What if we have never been snowmobiling before?
That's O.K. Our professional guides will teach first time riders to
operate their machines safely, and lead them on their tour of the
backcountry.
*Can anyone drive a snowmobile?
You must be at least 15 1/2 with a learner's permit or driver's license.
Snow-mobiles are heavy, but if you stay on the groomed trails you
shouldn't have any problems. If you do get stuck in the snow, just
follow your guide's instructions.
*Can the kids go?
Kids under five can ride on the back of a tandem machine with their
parent for free. Another option is riding on a passenger sled behind
the guide for $50.00 per child. Anyone can ride on the back of a
tandem machine if they are unable or do not wish to operate the machine
themselves. Our guides also have room on their snowmobile for a fee.
*What if I drive my snowmobile into a tree?
Use of our vehicles is similar to renting a car. Guests are financially
responsible for any damages they cause. A credit card is required
for a damage deposit on snowmobiles. Guests can limit their liability
by purchasing our rental protection program.
